Winners Announced: Design Snack Feedback Contest

Design Snack is looking for some great, honest feedback about our features, benefits and our website in general. We really want to focus our efforts in the next update push and want to know what you want to see. To make this request as successful as possible, we’re offering a $15 Apple iTunes (music, movies and apps) gift card to the top 3 comments, suggestions, etc.

Congrats to Rik Barwick, s.robillard, and Mark Fasel!

Unfortunately, there weren’t too many entries to choose from, but I’m sure you’re not complaining! Thank you so much for the great feedback you’ve provided, it’s a huge help.

As promised, your $15 iTunes gift cards are ready for your enjoyment, just check your email for a message from Design Snack. Enjoy!

Here’s the original contest:

Take the following ideas we’ve come up with into consideration and let us know what your favorites are. But more importantly, add your own suggestions!

Some of our ideas:

  1. Twitter/Facebook integration to sign in and push your portfolio entries onto your social platforms.
  2. We’d like to actually put points to use and offer trade-in awards (double-votes, free ad space).
  3. A Design Snack API to display your portfolio and other stats on an external site.
  4. Sponsored contests to win great stuff like computer hardware, software, gift cards, etc.
  5. An iPhone/Android app is in the planning stages, what would you like to see here?

A featured artist/designer Every week/month and give that artist/designer a special badge or something, and also when your entering in a website a way to put in all the coding languages and programs used would be awesome!!!

Love the Social integration, think that would work out really well for your users!

    Not bothered by number 2

Sounds good, would be cool for users blogs and could be quite the traffic generator which is awesome!

Not bothered by 4, i never win anything too be honest!

The iPhone app sounds cool, to be able to upload mobile versions of our sites adds another twist however you run the risk with flash content. Mobile tagging and comments would be great!

My own initial feedback about the site is that i love what you have done with the new release, works really nicely now as you can add larger images for those longer sites, however there is no way of recovering your account details, my account hasn’t worked since release and would like to get some work on!

Hope that helps, just my 2 pence worth!

    Rik

Yeah, embarrassingly we haven’t added a simple “Forgot your password?” link to the login form. I’ll push that into the priorities list and get that done soon. If you’d like though, use our contact form and send us your username and I’ll reset your password manually for now.

We actually have some neat ideas for the iPhone app that I don’t really want to disclose quite yet. It does has to do with “mobile inspiration”; but maybe not in the way you’re thinking. You’ll have to wait and see! :)

I for one would like to see the points either be used or removed. I actually asked this question quite some time ago. I would probably lean toward their removal. Spending any amount of time on the site will tell you who the top members (commentators/posters etc.) are.

In terms of an iPhone app. I am a little concerned about how useful this would be. In the existing design (for a computer monitor) you often need to click through to the site to get a real feel for the design. I don’t see how this would be less of a problem on a small form factor screen, especially for non iPhone adapted sites. Not to mention that the site may use browser detection or feature detection and serve an entirely different design to the iPhone.

Sponsored contest may be a good idea, but do they prove effective in building real community members or do they just attract one time visitors more interested in the prize. Perhaps you could tie them to something like best review of the month or highest ranked submission (not that these are perfect at eliminating gaming the system among other abuses).

As for twiiter/faceboook etc. Social media integration is never a bad thing.

I like Edwards comment about listing the technologies used, and adding a featured designer etc.

I would also like to see a little more emphasis placed on accessibility. Being beautiful and communicating the intended message well are great, but they are useless if I can’t access the page content.

    Just my 2cents worth
    Steve

      All very good points.

The points system is something I’d really like to see made into a rewards system. I’m going to stick to my guns on that one and try to get that implemented sooner rather than later. Thanks for your thoughts on that.

As for the iPhone app I completely agree, which is why I have a new concept for the mobile version. I’ll keep everyone guessing for now. :)

      Thanks for your input!

I agree about the badges and medals. It would be cool to see something like Envato has in their market place. I would also love to see a forum space for discussions or maybe allowing users to be able to create blogs.

I personally am not the best at web design, but I am very good at icon and print design. I would love to see a category for icon/ logo design.

I too agree with a badge system, it would be a really cool feature to be implemented. I would also like to see an extended profile section – ie the ability to link to my portfolio website, as well as the social network integration as mentioned above. Maybe even a brief bio and skills section too. More categories would be nice too. Other than that, I really like what’s happening here and I can only see good things to come!

    Nice work!
