Catalyst Theme Review – Truly Unlimited

Not too long ago, I had the opportunity to play with the Catalyst theme. To be honest, I should’ve written this review quite a while ago when I first got a hold of the theme. 😉

After playing with Catalyst for quite a bit, and seeing its potential, I can say that this is one of my favorite themes I’ve used to date. Right up front, I want to tell you that this theme is not for the faint of heart though. Catalyst is a complicated theme. But, with features such as Responsive Design and an Unlimited License (Yes, awesomeness)… I’m inclined to deal with the learning curve.

What will Catalyst Theme cost me?

The Not So Great

Right off the bat, I want to reiterate that Catalyst does have a ton of options. Just looking at the Catalyst admin options page is almost scary. But, then again, I’m the kind of guy that prefers less choices. I want to walk into a burger joint and have 3 choices: Hamburger, Cheeseburger, Double Cheeseburger. 😉

With that being said though, Catalyst does allow non-coders a lot of flexibility. If you don’t know a thing about coding, and don’t want to learn CSS, then this Catalyst is the way to go. You can style everything from the Homepage to the widget padding without touching code. Here’s a screenshot below (This baby is long… Dont forget to read the rest of the review):

Catalyst Dynamik Options Panel

Alright, so as you can see, there’s a ton of options. This is not necessarily bad. For those of you that are code-phobic, let me know what you think.

The Awesome

Let me reiterate here that Catalyst has an unlimited license. So, for $127 (at the current time), you can download Catalyst and use it on an unlimited amount of websites, but you also get lifetime updates and support. Pretty awesome, right?

Out of the box, Catalyst comes with some great SEO features and is also responsive. There are two navbars, which is great in case you want to add a nav bar to the footer, or elsewhere. Catalyst gives you the option to include the Modernizr and Respond scripts, which means you won’t have to install them yourself!

There are also some pretty easy footer customization short codes that will make child’s play out of editing your footer.

Bottom Line

The Catalyst Theme is a great framework. Out of the box, you will need to do some customizations to get it up to par. You will struggle with the options for a while.

But, for a framework with unlimited possibilities and an unlimited license… This is a great place to start.

I highly recommend this to web developers. Can’t go wrong with a 30 day money back guarantee.
