It’s been a long time coming, but Design Snack has now finally evolved into what we set out to create in the first place: A socially powered design gallery. We couldn’t be happier with the final results.

A little Design Snack history first.

November, 2004: The year Design Snack went live to the public for the very first time.

Now five years later, Design Snack has transformed into what we like to call a “socially-powered design gallery”. We’ve always stuck to this style of functionality, but this launch is the biggest Design Snack has ever seen.

Why is this relaunch so significant?

• Design Refresh. In a big way, we’ve changed the look and feel of Design Snack a lot, but it still feels like the site you’ve grown to love all these years. The design was entirely rethought and recoded. We wanted to lose the dark green background, but still keep that green/brown feel. We hope you like it!
• More Dynamic. We’ve added a ton of dynamic content, all of which is powered by jQuery and PHP. The functionality of the site was also entirely rethought and recoded.
• More Social. We invite you to vote, save, post comments about items, and now even post comments and messages to your profile pages and to your “friend’s” profile pages. Design Snack has friend options now, which is a great way to keep in touch with your favorite designers.
• A New Profile. We’ve completely transformed the profile into an actual useful area of the site. Once you register to become a member, you’ll have access to adding friends, posting items to your portfolio (which become the gallery items), viewing recent friend activity and much more.
• Great Filters. Design Snack has always had filtering options. Now, with the more dynamic content, it’s so much easier to find the inspiration you’re looking for quickly and easily. Many more filters will be added later.
• There’s a lot more too, but I’ll let you check it out for yourselves.

A few important notes before you explore.

• Member Migration. All members that had verified email addresses were transferred to the new site. All of your points have come with you as well.
• Site Migration. This one is important. The ONLY sites that made it through migration were the ones that had a member attached to it (a member submitted site), and had a large enough screenshot (665px or wider). Unfortunately, this meant only 191 sites made it through migration. All other sites will need to be resubmitted by a member!
• Sites are called Items. Members are the only people now that can submit an “item” to the gallery. They do this by adding it to their porfolio, which gets pushed to the “Recent Submissions” list on the homepage. If they receive enough positive votes, they’ll get pushed to the more permanent “Top Designs” list.
